Wisdom For Your Teeth
Ensuring that you have a clean mouth can be difficult and time consuming. The number of bacteria living in the average mouth is comparable to our planet’s population. That’s definitely not something we think about every day and definitely not a comforting fact. We’ve listed some words of dental health wisdom to keep in mind from the time you brush in the morning to the time you brush before bed.
Brush twice a day and floss daily. Of course! This is something that has probably resonated with you since you were a kid but sometimes people forget to brush at night and, more often, people forget to floss. It’s not just enough to clean the surface. Floss gets in between each tooth to pick up buildup that occurs daily.
Don’t kiss your pets. This may be hard for many people. We love our faithful companions and want them to know that, but while we’re at work our friends are at play. What we can’t always see happening in our backyards isn’t always safe for our mouths. Our pets mouths have literally been around the block, let’s not add our mouths to the mix.
Don’t share toothbrushes. Not with your friends, family or even spouse. Remember, each mouth contains bacteria beyond imagination. When we share toothbrushes, we mix plaque, which is where most of our mouth’s bacteria come from. Stick to your own brush.
Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months. The American Dental Association suggests replacing your brush quarterly to make sure your toothbrush is in good working order. Bristles weaken and eventually begin to brush less plaque and bacteria off the surface of teeth.
Dental hygiene is absolutely necessary to make part of our daily routine. Without the proper steps, we run the risk of contracting illnesses and diseases that come with this unbelievable amount of bacteria setting up shop around our teeth and gums.
