What you can do
Often, wires can come loose, you may feel soreness or even a headache. These mild side effects can happen, but there are some things you can do to minimize these discomforts:
- Soreness - After the initial placement of braces and subsequent adjustments, teeth and gums may be tender and sore. A simple, over the counter pain reliever may be helpful in alleviating any pain you may have following the placement or adjustment.
- Mild tooth mobility - You may notice that your teeth are slightly loose while having braces. This is perfectly normal and after the tooth has moved to its correct position, the bone around it becomes hard again.
- Wire poking - As teeth move, it is possible for wires to stick out from the back brace, poking your gums and cheek. You can place some wax (usually provided by your dentist) on the the sharp end to keep you comfortable.
